Tis the season for Back to School. As I began thinking about what kind of project I wanted to make I kept this theme in mind. I remember back to school shopping and all the butterflies in my stomach leading up to the first day of school.
I'm an optimist at heart. I always try and weave a positive message into my art. For this project, I decided to make a mirror with a positive affirmation for either a school locker (there's a magnet on the back) or a teacher's classroom. The mirror can also be hung using the fabric and ribbon loops on the top.

Back to School time can be difficult for some children. In my mind I was hoping that a small mirror with a positive message may make someone pause for a moment and think to themselves...I really am enough, just the way I am. This kind of message isn't limited to children - we adults need to be reminded that we are enough as well - just the way we are.

What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can't live without in your studio and why?
I'd have to say that my GelliArts Gel Printing Plate is my most important tool as it is used 95% of the time in my art. I love that every tool of the brayer on the Gelli Plate produces a different color scheme. The Gelli Plate is such a versatile tool. I could never create without one.
Is there an element of art you enjoy working with most? Why?
This is an easy one for me - I adore working on shipping tags. I love the challenge of working small. I like to see just how much art I can pack on to one tag. They're versatile. They're stylish. They come in a million different sizes. I venture out of my comfort zone but altered art tags are always the home I return to.
